On November 20, 2024, the Children New Generation foundation opened a new transit shelter in Dnipro for mothers with children. This safe space provides women and their children, evacuated from conflict zones, with temporary shelter, recovery, and essential support.
On its very first day of operation, the shelter welcomed its first families from the Pokrovsk district in Donetsk Oblast. Among them was Lyudmyla with her sons Illya and Arthur, who were evacuated from a city that has been without electricity or heating for months. Lyudmyla shared how residents used improvised stoves in their apartments and replaced candles with oil-soaked cotton.
At least we got a good night's sleep here [in the new shelter]: everyone's on pins and needles there.
The shelter can accommodate up to 60 mothers and children. Here, they can rest and receive psychological support, food, clothing, and assistance with paperwork. We believe this project will provide crucial support to families forced to leave their homes.
We thank our partners for their support in launching the shelter and invite everyone who wishes to help to join us.
